HoursIngredients
1 cup (240 ml) whole milk 🥛 (or unsweetened almond milk for a dairy-free version)
1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream 🥶 (use coconut cream for vegan options)
2/3 cup (135 g) granulated sugar 🧂 (or 1/2 cup erythritol for low-sugar)
1/2 tsp peppermint extract 🌱
1-2 drops green food coloring (optional for visual appeal) đź’š
1/3 cup (50 g) mini chocolate chips 🍫 (use vegan chocolate if needed)
Directions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, and sugar until the sugar is fully dissolved. This ensures a smooth texture.
- Stir in the peppermint extract and a drop or two of green food coloring if desired. Taste and adjust mint flavor to your preference.
- Transfer the mixture into the Ninja Creami pint container. Make sure the base does not exceed the max fill line.
- Place the container into the freezer for 24 hours. It must be completely frozen solid before processing.
- Remove the frozen container from the freezer and place it in the Ninja Creami machine.
- Select the “Gelato” function on the Ninja Creami. If the texture isn’t creamy enough after the first spin, use the “Re-spin” option.
- Once the gelato is creamy, create a small well in the middle of the container and add the chocolate chips. Run the “Mix-In” function.
- If the mix-in isn’t evenly distributed, gently stir with a spatula. Avoid over-mixing to maintain the gelato’s creamy texture.
- Scoop out a small portion to ensure the mint flavor and chip distribution are perfect.
- Scoop into bowls, garnish with extra chocolate chips or mint leaves, and enjoy immediately!
Notes
- Chill the Ingredients: For optimal results, chill your milk and cream in the refrigerator before starting.
- Minty Freshness: Use pure peppermint extract, not spearmint, for an authentic flavor.
- Storage Tip: If the gelato hardens in the freezer, use the “Re-spin” function to restore creaminess.

I still remember the first time I tried mint chocolate chip ice cream as a kid. It was one of those hot summer afternoons at a local ice cream parlor with my family. I hesitated to order it because, let’s face it, green ice cream looked a bit odd compared to chocolate or vanilla. But the moment I took my first bite, I was hooked—the cool burst of mint paired with the rich crunch of chocolate chips was pure magic.
Fast forward to today, I love recreating that childhood joy with my Ninja Creami. There’s something so satisfying about crafting the perfect balance of minty freshness and creamy indulgence right at home. Plus, being able to customize the recipe (more chocolate chips, anyone?) makes it even better. My kids love helping me mix in the chocolate chips—they call it “minty treasure hunting!”
Now, every time I scoop this gelato, it feels like a nostalgic trip back to that sunny day. What’s your favorite ice cream memory? I’d love to hear it!
